E-Learn offers Interactive courses and books on a wide range of business and IT topics, available 24/7. Go to http://blu.berkeley.edu log in with your CalNet; locate the self-service box on the left and select the e-learn link at the bottom which takes a few seconds to load; from there, you can search for the books and courses you need.

Typing Tutorials (short list) Are you tired of hunting and pecking? If so, you may want to try one of these "free" on-line typing tutorials.

  • http://www.goodtyping.com/  offered in Spanish, French. Italian, Portuguese
    Simple registration
    First lesson begins with simple home key patterns. It is recommend you practice at this level until you get down to 3% error rate before continuing on, or you can by pass and go on to the next level. In these tutorials you are only allowed to type the correct letters, therefore you do not have to go back and correct mistakes. Just hit the right key and continue.
    Offers speed test and printable certificate.

    Choose games to practice typing – save city from aliens by typing words, etc.

  • http://www.powertyping.com/
    No registration required.
    Offers speed test
    Offers typing games for Qwerty(standard key board) or Dvorak (alternative letter pattern)
    Tutorials are accompanied by music to encourage development of rhythm and reduced error rate.

    Simple registration
    Offers speed typing test. Color codes fingers to keyboard
    Begins with home keys only.
    Moves on quickly without a lot of key repetition

    No registration required.
    Offers speed test
    Enlarges letter in sequence you are supposed to type.

    Simple registration - free use or option to pay $4.99 to remove adds displayed
    Tutorials the shows keyboard as well as image showing which fingers to use.
    You must have a high enough level of accuracy to continue.

When I ran a google search on "free typing" it comes up with thousands to choose from. I tried these five as a statring point. If you'd like to offer feed back on which tutorial you like, we can begin to rank them.
